Two very special days in the life of the Christian community, are particularly important at Saint Peter’s: All Saints Day and Día de los Muertos (Dia de los todos los santos and Day of the dead).
All Saints Day, celebrated ecumenically in the churches of “the West” on the nearest Sunday, is particularly important to churches located within or with heritage in the northern parts of Europe. Día de los Muertos is particularly important in Latin America and the parts of Europe from which colonizers to Central and South America came. Here at Saint Peter’s, with people whose heritages are from across this entire spectrum, both of these days are deeply embedded into faith, piety and identity. Together, our rich diversity makes these days, for us, much more than the sum of all our parts.
IN MEMORIAM TRIBUTE
Throughout these days, we remember our loved ones with special intention. One way in which we do this is to publish a printed In Memoriam List. Please submit your beloved ones in this form. As you can imagine, it takes a great deal of time and energy to compile this list, and so please insert any and all names for our parish’s In Memoriam by Sunday, October 5.
Note: We remember in a particular way persons who died since we last observed All Saints Day and Día de los Muertos. Please be attentive to the two different sections for your loved ones names.
IN MEMORIAM FLOWERS
Flowers are a symbol of life and growth across cultures. With life, itself, at the center of All Saints Day and Día de los Muertos, however you mark this day, consider making a gift to the Flower Fund. You can give a gift regardless of whether or not you submit a name to our parish In Memoriam Tribute.
