Jubileo50
2026-28
This is a momentous time of celebration!
Fifty years ago, in 1976, granite was being affixed to steel, and Saint Peter’s Church at CitiCorp Center was taking shape. In December 1977, the new building was consecrated. The year 1978 heralded the first full year of our Life at the Intersection. Then and now, a remarkable five decades later, hundreds of thousands of people continue to call this place “home.”
After much of our building was destroyed in 2021 by a broken NYC water main, we, too, are building! In 2026, we will begin rebuilding the Sacristy, the choral library and archive. Our partners at The Arts and Architecture Conservancy at Saint Peter’s will begin rebuilding the Music Room/Dance Studio and bathrooms. In 2027, reconstruction of the Theater and Jazz & Music Studios will begin, as well as a new Loft for community events, art spaces and more. In 2028, we will see the return of programs long on pause and welcome new ones.
We are blessed that the building’s golden jubilee — now recognized on local, state and national registers of historic places — coincides with this long-awaited rebuilding!

To bring back and expand community activities: retreats, Noche Latina parties and Milongas, daily Mass and more.

The Bible envisions a jubilee year following seven seven-year cycles of investment and renewal (think six days of a week with rest on the seventh, but counted as years) in the land God has given God’s people to steward for their sustenance and for the sustenance of their neighbors.
A jubilee is a time of special celebration: not merely to rest, but to reset and reinvest for the next stretch of seven seven-year cycles! And, a jubilee is for everyone: those who plant and those who harvest, those who have been present for a while and those who are new or just passing by, those who have made commitments before and those who have not.
Jubileo50 — a three-year campaign across the 2026, 2027 and 2028 jubilee time-frame — is an invitation to consider the way you can celebrate: a commitment to this extraordinary period of reset and reinvestment not only in a building but in Saint Peter’s impact in your life, the life of many who call this place home, the life of the city.

The first time Saint Peter’s asked its members to make a three-year pledge was for 1976-78. The reasoning was to help Saint Peter’s to anticipate income and clearly define, plan and develop programs. It was to “help us move toward tomorrow’s horizons with added confidence and hope.”
We ask you to make a three-year pledge in honor of the meaningful impact of this community’s first fifty years and to fervently prepare us for the next fifty.

Your gift will support the ever expansive ministries of Saint Peter’s: Your gift will communicate the Word and celebrate the Eucharist. It will share friendship with the lonely, give faith to the sick and suffering, and feed a hungry family. It will swing a beat, sing a song, and produce a dance meditation. It will help pay the salaries of our leaders. It will speak in many languages. It will form an eager child. It will support arts and cultural programs. It will build community and provide hope for the future.

Instead of thinking about dollars first, think about the ways in which God has blessed you and you are able to live an abundant life. Imagine what happens if you commit a portion of that abundance to our life together in community: we are strong, we are whole, we serve others with vitality.
Your commitment may be
10% of your annual income
A match of what you spend on coffee weekly
A percent of what you spend on TV, internet or phone subscriptions
“Rounding up” on all your purchases
If you discerned your commitment based on this in a previous year, consider if this is still an accurate portion.

While this page is filled with resources to help you discern, ultimately this is a personal question that can only be answered by each individual person. Here’s a way of assessing your own position:
Ask yourself frankly to look at what you have been giving to the Church, then decide whether it has been “token”, “adequate”, or “sacrificial”. This is is a tremendously individual matter. Only you can answer it.
If your giving has been “token,” try to increase it generously.
If your giving has seemed “adequate” to you over the past few years, bear in mind the ways in which matters like inflation have been running at exceedingly high rates (10%+ in several years), and an increase of these proportions would support the Church in keeping pace.
If you have been giving “sacrificially,” nothing in the world will change that.

You can from choose the levels of support above to start or increase your current giving.

All gifts to Saint Peter’s Church are deductible for income tax purposes in accordance with IRS regulations. This may make it possible for your giving to go even further with various tax benefits, based on your income tax bracket. Some may find that the gift of appreciated securities provides them with additional tax savings. While the Church cannot provide tax advice, you are urged to discuss this matter with your lawyer and/or tax accountant.

Saint Paul puts it better than any other theologian:
“...the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as each has made up in their mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
“You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 11
