THE ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE CONSERVANCY AT SAINT PETER'S

Opening Reception
10.06.2025 - 6:00 P.M.

Comprised of figurative elements, disassociated from bodies, these works — abstract arrangements of color and form — capture movement in a medium that does not move. Created by native New Yorker Jack Howard-Potter, this larger-than-life installation includes works on paper, sculpture, and a 20-foot-wide line drawing on fabric.

NEVELSON CHAPEL:
EXPLORING THE RESTORATION AND CONSERVATION
11.10.2025 - 6:30 P.M. / reception, 6:00 P.M.
THE ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE CONSERVANCY AT SAINT PETER'S

Restoration of Nevelson Chapel began a decade ago. Early scientific testing shaped initial approaches, later deepened by groundbreaking research. New insights include the discovery that Nevelson used fire-retardant paint.

But conservation is more than science. It means interpreting Nevelson’s intent, responding to public expectations, navigating constraints, and considering ethical questions. Conservators Martha Singer and Jean Dommermuth, and the team of experts guiding the project, explore the arc of the comprehensive effort — and deeper meanings of conservation.
