In Memoriam: Sergio Rinaldi
Sergio Rinaldi (September 24, 1957 - December 9, 2025)
On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, our beloved Sergio Rinaldi was carried to the realm of heaven. His death comes after a protracted illness and extensive hospitalizations. Our hearts are heavy, though we know he is at peace. Born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, he came to the United States following the career of his former spouse. He is survived by their daughter, Sofia, and his sister, Alicia. I ask you, please, to hold them in your prayer.
Sergio was an early member of the community which gathers for Misa en español (in his days at 1:30 P.M.), which in 2026 will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Having come to Saint Peter’s at the recommendation of Pastor Napoleon Plaza, Sergio made not only the Misa but the whole of Saint Peter’s his home. More. He and Sofia were not merely members, they were at Saint Peter’s regularly and he volunteered often, mostly as a reader at Misa.
As a person whose entire professional career was in communications, Sergio inspired many. He was a radio and television personality both in Argentina and in the United States. He shared this passion and his expertise with communication at Saint Peter’s in the proclamation of scripture. The Rev. Hector Ribone, pastor emeritus and founder of the Misa en español, fondly remembers Sergio’s diction and his skill at reading publicly. The Rev. Fabian Arias, who first came to know Sergio when he was a student Vicar at Saint Peters, now Sergio’s pastor, remembers Sergio’s coverage of environmental and social issues, in particular.
Sergio’s family is making arrangements to return his cremains to Argentina—a final journey home to a final resting place.
Rest eternal grant him, O Lord.
And let light perpetual shine upon him.
Grace and peace to you,
Jared R. Stahler
Senior Pastor
