Announcing the Next Phase of Our Reopening

With our COVID-19 taskforce, we are pleased to announce the next phase of our reopening. This phase focuses on offering in-person Sunday liturgies, while also providing online streaming for those persons who do not yet feel comfortable returning to church in person. Beginning Sunday, September 12 -- the the day on which we observe Holy Cross Day -- we will offer four in-person liturgies:

10:30 AM - English Language Mass
12:00 Noon - Bilingual Mass
1:30 PM - Spanish Language Mass
5:00 PM - Jazz Vespers

Please note the new time schedule. This schedule is designed to accommodate safe entry into and exit from the building, cleaning between liturgies and liturgical/musical resets.

A more detailed email with the procedures we will follow will be sent in the coming weeks. But for now, here are two key points:

  1. Because our Sanctuary remains unusable following the water main break, these in-person liturgies will be held in the Living Room. Each liturgy has a maximum capacity of 40 persons, including liturgical/musical personnel. Social distancing and masks -- regardless of vaccination status -- are required.

  2. Advance registration is required via saintpeters.org (next week), which includes symptom and testing attestations. This pre-registration will be used as part of the check-in process, which will include temperature screening, for each person at the church entrance on Lexington Avenue.

Taken together, this new liturgy schedule and COVID-19 capacity allows for 160 persons to gather for in-person liturgies every Sunday. We will continue to monitor public health guidelines, work diligently to restore the Sanctuary and, based on need, adapt our schedule and capacity accordingly. As with all of our COVID-19 reopening efforts to date, we pray this phase is a sustained step forward that protects the health and safety of our entire community together, as the body of Christ.

Grace and peace to you,

Pastor Jared R. Stahler
