Jazz Vespers
Mike Forfia Quartet
March 12, 2017
5:00 P.M.
Each Sunday at 5:00 P.M. an open community gathers for prayer and reflection on the lines of sacred scripture and jazz.

The community is diverse and includes people who live near and far, native and new New Yorkers, and people visiting New York City. Oftentimes churches will bring groups from their home congregations. Others are not Christians or are exploring Christianity for the first time in this supportive environment. Musicians from New York and throughout the world come to play.

As at every other liturgy of Saint Peter's Church, everyone is welcome.

About the musicians

Communication is the core element of Mike Forfia’s artistic pursuits. A native of Akron, Ohio, he melds his various experiences to create space for communication to flourish. His diverse palate has allowed him to perform with a variety of international groups and artists including violinist Christian Howes and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Mike was a finalist in the Ron Carter Bass Competition at the Detroit Jazz Festival in July 2016 and was awarded the 1st prize at the
International Society of Bassists’ Scott LaFaro jazz bass competition in July 2015. He was the recipient of the 2016 Post-Graduate Internship award by the Eastman School of Music Arts Leadership Program. Presently, Mike assists with programming and media production at “The First Church of Jazz,” Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in NYC.
