39 Days: Moving from "walls" to what's "behind the walls."

This week seems substantially different than prior weeks: remediation is moving from "walls' to what's "behind the walls." Removal of all wet drywall and mitigation of mold (which forms almost immediately) clears the way for investigation into mechanical, electrical and other systems. This is important progress in learning the extent of loss -- and more importantly, the scope of our rebuilding.

I am also glad the organ is safely removed and at the C.B. Fisk workshop in Gloucester, MA. This is a major step forward in being able to develop the means and methods for cleaning the sanctuary of remaining mud and dirt.

While there is significant work ahead, I hope, like me, you will read and see in this update a future which is brighter than any of us may have perceived in this month since the water main break.

Grace and peace to you,

Jared R. Stahler
Senior Pastor

  • A team of three specialists -- an architect, an environmental hygenist, and a mechanical/electrical/plumbing consultant -- conducted a walkthrough on Monday. They are now drafting a report to recommend next steps initially involving plumbing and ductwork.

  • After an outbreak of mold on LL2, per our hygienist we can now confirm that LL2 is mold free.

  • Now that the organ has been safely removed to C.B. Fisk in Gloucester MA, the floor and woodwork of the sanctuary can be addressed. The woodwork will be evaluated by experts, and a plan is coming into place to handle the cleaning of the sanctuary floor.

  • The board of managers of Saint Peter's Church and Boston Properties is working together to enumerate losses and file coordinated insurance claims. This is an ongoing process.

Boxing the Klais organ.
